They say you should never meet your heroes. But last night I met one of mine in a small pub in Barnsley, of all places. He was just as I'd imagined, if a little older than he was in the film in which he appears.
Want to know who it is?
While he's not a household name by any means, David Bradley (or Dai Bradley, as he now likes to be known) is one of my favourite actors. Why? Because he appears in one of my favourite films - Kes.
If you haven't seen Kes, make sure you track it down. It's a British classic, set in Barnsley (my current place of residence) and comical/absolutely heartbreaking in equal measure.

David was back in Barnsley last night for a meet and greet, telling stories about the film, answering questions, posing for pictures (with an actual kestrel, would you believe) and signing autographs.
When I met my Barnsley-born fella six years ago, we spent most of the evening reeling off quotes from the film.
"Hands off cocks, on socks." He cheekily signed my DVD sleeve with those very words.
I'll leave you with one of my favourite scenes from Kes. In terms of cinematic excellence, nothing comes close to this.
We all had a teacher like this, didn't we?
Have you seen Kes? Are you as big a fan as me?
What's your favourite British-made film?
